KURT RUSSELL TO RETIRE?

Kurt Russell is appearing in Chris Columbus’ two The Christmas Chronicles movies, where he plays Santa Claus.  And it turns out that this could be the final role he shows up in.

Speaking with Yahoo recently, Columbus revealed that the actor told him he wants that role to be the last one he ever plays:

“[Kurt] said to me, ‘I want to walk into the sunset, this being the last role I play. He wants to continue doing it. Deep down into his soul, he’s committed to this role. That means eight weeks growing the beard with little additional flourishes, working with the script every night before he shoots with me. It’s an intense commitment. And he takes it very seriously.”

Russell has had a career spanning 40 years and unlike some other actors of his generation, seems to have mostly picked his roles in his later years.  He has stayed (mostly) away from VOD’y trash.  Is this a suitable swansong role however?  I’m not sure as I have not seen this character.

I do like however how Sean Connery and Gene Hackman (for example) walked away on their own terms instead of becoming… Harrison Ford.  Or worse… WB.
