Steven Seagal has not had a theatrical release in many years, many more years if you don’t consider Machete ‘his’ movie. It looks like this is something that will never change, especially considering further controversies surrounding the man in recent years, not least his opinions on political matters.
Now though director Matthew Clark is alleging otherwise. He tells users on the unofficial Steven Seagal Forum that he’s going to direct a movie with Seagal, to go theatrical in 2021.
… it is being distributed worldwide by UNIVERSAL and is a Tier 1 project. The release date is October 2nd 2021 to give time for the pandemic to ease so the theaters are open again. It would bring Steven Seagal back to the big screen and we are not using actors in a stereotypical way or how the audience is used to seeing them. This film is written on a deep level and pushes everyone’s acting abilities.
The film will supposedly be titled The Legend of Johnny Jones. It is said to be horror-themed and will be released by Universal Halloween 2021.
However the information appears to be optimistic. Matthew Clark is a director of essentially nothing, so Universal handing a ‘Tier 1’ project to him which will star Steven Seagal sounds dubious at best. Especially when you consider that they already have a Halloween horror theatrical film lined up for then (the sequel Halloween Kills).
