Today we have the trailer for what could possibly be the manliest TV series of 2021. The North Water will release on AMC.
Set in Hull, England, and on the ice floes of the Arctic in the late 1850s, the series tells the story of Patrick Sumner ( Jack O’Connell), a disgraced ex-army surgeon who signs up as the ship’s doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic.
Synopsis: A disgraced ex-army surgeon signs up as ship’s doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic. On board he meets a harpooner, a brutish killer whose amorality has been shaped to fit the harshness of his world. Hoping to escape the horrors of his past, he finds himself on an ill-fated journey with a murderous psychopath.
A couple of important notes on this one: First, it appears to be free of woke instruction. Second, the show was filmed in the arctic, on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard (Spitzbergen), with the production team journeying north as far as 81 degrees. This is important because shows like this can often be filmed on a stage, with the landscape/sea added digitally, for instance Chris Hemsworth’s In the Heat of the Sea was basically ruined by hokey green screen and lighting.
The show debuts July 15th.
