The new as-yet untitled Expendables movie has had its cast confirmed by LionsGate. Although this won’t be news to readers of this site, the returning cast is Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture. To be joined by new faces 50 Cent, Megan Fox and Tony Jaa.
Scott Waugh, stuntman turned director, will direct the feature from a script by Max Adams, Spenser Cohen and John Joseph Connelly.
Separate from LionsGate’s statement, to recap; Sylvester Stallone’s involvement in the film will be very minimal. It will film in Bulgaria, probably in its entirety. The working title is The Expendables: A Christmas Story.
It looks like we’re officially in the downsize era for this franchise. The answer to who else can they get after Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes and others is apparently, no-one. Tony Jaa is a good get, but a bit too modern. Only Steven Seagal, Jackie Chan and a committed attempt to fix things could’ve kept this franchise at its previous hype highs.
50 Cent was originally sought for the first movie, but fan uproar put an end to that. At this point, those same fans are probably… unmotivated?
