Going ‘DTV’ isn’t what it used to be, with the virus hoax further re-orientating further what was already a shift small but noticeable shift away from cinema consumption. In fact it should be called ‘VOD’ nowadays. But anyway, there’s a new Alien movie coming, called Alien: Romulus, according to a listing on the Film & Television Industry Alliance website.
The movie will also be VOD/DTV. It’s going to be on Hulu, same as Prey. But again, not all VOD releases are equal. Netflix, for example, can produce something good, big and with an A-Lister like Extraction. Or take Beverly Hills Cop 4, a movie that is being produced by them and also released theatrically. Romulus is not going theatrical, staggered or otherwise.
Is that even the thing to worry about at this point? After Prey, an Alien movie appearing on Hulu might suggest feminism of the scowling variety. Or God knows what the fuck else. Still pissed we didn’t get a re-done Aliens sequel.
It has a good director though, Fede Alvarez, who directed Don’t Breathe.
