Top Five: Heist Movies
2) Heat (1995)
Speaking of Heat…. here it is. One of two summer of ’95 heist movies, the other one was a little movie called Die Hard with a Vengeance. Although Heat is the better movie between the two. And it really needs no introduction. Most good heist movies get the important things right – the details and authenticity. But Heat takes that shit to a whole ‘nother level. Mann’s movie is obsessively nuanced – and I love it for it.
In fact, this isn’t even Mann’s only heist movie. I was almost going to put ‘Thief’ (1981) on this list, starring James Caan. But like I said in my full review of Heat, even the actual robbery itself is worth watching this movie for. Then there’s the planning, the shootout, the sound, the casting. It’s not just the best heist movie of the 1990’s, its the best movie of the 1990’s. Though it isn’t the best heist movie ever, there’s one other movie that is better than even Heat…
