Top Five: Best Action Sequels Ever
4) Rambo II (1985)
The first of three movies on this list with Cameron’s touch, but only just. Stallone wisely scrapped an idea of Cameron’s to have John Travolta accompany Rambo into the jungle (Jesus Christ!). This is arguably the one that really defined Rambo. Who says this movie doesn’t have a story? It does! Instead of taking the easy route and rehashing another manhunt, it does what most good sequels do – take a radical departure. Rambo buying his freedom by doing some covert work? Yes! It even has a message – US Government turned its back on POW’s.
What, underlying subtexts aren’t cool unless they’re politically correct? Well, fuck the detractors, John boy went in on a one man war of liberation. The soundtrack, action, direction and cinematography are all amazing and amped up. It was nigh on impossible to live up to First Blood, but somehow they did it with this. That chopper duel is one of the best things of the 80’s.
