Top Five: Best Action Sequels Ever
2) Mad Max 2 (1981)
This is one of the few action sequels that is better than the original and the best out of three. Like any good sequel, it rips up the original idea and comes out of left field. The world has gone to shit and its dog eat dog after a nuclear apocalypse. Mad Max was an action/thriller. Mad Max 2 is just pure action. This film is home of some of the best chase sequences of all time. Outdoing the original and everything else for that matter. Even Cameron tried, twice, to redo the truck chase. The little nod in Terminator 2 of a percussion grenade falling out of reach during a truck chase is found here, 10 years earlier.
So, even Cameron takes inspiration from others. Maybe it’s the sound of the engines amplified and furiously dubbed in, maybe it’s the villains. Maybe it’s Mel. It isn’t just one of the best sequels ever, it’s one of the best action movies of all time. And shot with pocket change. Paul Anderson laughably tried to rip this movie off in one of his Resident Evil movies. Fail.
