5) Predator 2 (1990)
After the Top Five Worst Action Sequels Ever, comes the top five best. This list is much harder, because the action genre does the sequel thing best. There’s so many. But one never really got credit that it deserves. Predator 2 had a lot to live up to and it was shat on financially, critically and even among many ‘fans’. I don’t get the hate. It doesn’t have Arnold, but Arnold’s insistence that the Predator be a good guy might have fucked it up, look how that turned out in the other movies. Predator 2 had bad luck. Like Stephen Hopkins (Director) put it: “Fox released it at the wrong time. It was too violently dark to go up against 30 Christmas movies”.
Nevertheless, its cult status is growing. The three other tie-ins/sequels show us just how good and faithful this sequel was. It adds backstory. It avoids the temptation to return to the jungle. And ‘Pussyface’ is just as badass as ‘Anytime’. Too violently dark and violent? As Dillon put it in Predator, no such thing old buddy!
