Top Five: Buddy Cop Movies

4) Tango & Cash (1989)

Lethal Weapon might not have been the first Buddy Cop movie, but its influence is clear with the amount of similar projects coming out immediately afterwards. Stallone is a cop who can’t stand his partner, Russell. Russell is a cop. Who can’t stand his partner, Stallone. You know, this is probably the most stupid movie on this list. I would say the jokes aren’t even funny. But that doesn’t stop it being a fun movie. Stallone and Russell are clearly enjoying it, they have chemistry and it shows. It doesn’t matter that Stallone got nominated for worst actor, or Russell nominated for worst actress (dressed in drag); If you analyse acting in movies like this, the joke’s on you.

It’s a good old fashioned Rated-R deal too. In some countries, as much as 7 minutes or more were cut out of it. It’s a pity Kurt Russell ignores his action roots these days, after all he turned down a role in The Expendables. Like Red Heat though, while this is a good Russell movie, its kind of a weak Stallone feature.
