3) The Rookie (1990)
This is probably Charlie Sheen’s best movie. Eastwood is basically doing Dirty Harry, but here he is actually a psychotic with a badge. Within minutes, there are pitched gun battles and Mad Max pursuits on the freeway, to say that Eastwood holds public safety in disregard when it comes to killing criminals (as opposed to capturing them to establish guilt) would be an understatement. Sheen is the greenhorn noob paired up with an unimpressed Eastwood, who disagrees with Eastwoods brutal ways. That disagreement doesn’t last long, though, before long Sheen is burning down bars and entering John McLane territory.
It’s violent, politically incorrect and funny. One liners ahoy. At the end, Eastwood and Sheen are on such a bloody rampage that they execute people in front of dozens of petrified witnesses. Ever heard of due process boys? This was the norm in 1990, absolutely. What a year.
