1) Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Too Old
The picture above is Arnold Schwarzenegger. On the set of Terminator Genisys. He is too old for this.
Over ten years ago some pissant reporter stopped the GOAT (that would be Mel Gibson) and asked him about the possibility of Mad Max 4. Mel responded, he said he didn’t really want to do it because he felt too old for the role. He said he had ‘too many lines on the forehead’. Gene Hackman took a similar outlook with his career. Why can’t Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Look I love Schwarzenegger as much as the next fan of manly action. His status above all else isn’t open to question. Perhaps only Sylvester Stallone rivals Arnold. But that doesn’t mean we’re going to kiss his ass over every shitty action or decision. Schwarzenegger is too old to play a T-800 and quite frankly when he came out and tried to ‘explain’ how Terminator tissue can age, my toes curled just a bit. It’s embarrassing.
It’s even worse when you see that this movie is aimed at a different audience and Schwarzenegger’s attempt to stay relevant with them is bordering on sad. There are other roles out there, action ones even, that could suit an aged Oak. But they need to be considered and relevant to Arnold’s age and Arnold’s fan base.
An aged and decrepit Terminator is not badass. Especially in a movie built around younger audiences. They’ve also had to tone down the new attire, because being a leather-clad biker looks silly on a pensioner. This means that Arnold must dress more age appropriate, making him look even less intense. That casual jacket and hoodie, or whatever it is, pales in comparison to the menacing killer’s punk appearance in T1.
