Underrated Manly Movies: Part IV
Soldier (1998)
What the hell, a good Paul W.S. Anderson movie? Well I don’t know about ‘good’, but I will go with ‘Underrated’. I mean okay, this movie is wholesale plagiarism. Take your pick, Aliens, Blade Runner, Universal Soldier. And yet… it’s oddly entertaining.
Maybe it’s Kurt Russell or the director’s glaring enthusiasm for cool ’80s movies, but ‘Soldier’ ain’t so bad at all. This was pretty much the last time Paul W.S. Anderson made a ‘watchable’ movie, from there on his crimes are grave. So what makes the movie decent? Personally, I’d give the nod to Gary Busey.
