5) Night Of The Living Dead (1990)
Few people can argue that the best zombie franchise is George Romero’s property, the Living Dead saga. Not all of them are great, the recent entries have damaged the series somewhat. But most are.
The fifth best is in fact a remake. A rarer thing back in 1990. Most think the term ‘remake’ equates to ‘crap’, but this is an instance where that isn’t the case. Night 1990 may not be as good as the original, but it’s not far behind. Initial reaction to this winner, written by Romero himself, was negative. What gives? It’s underrated and I don’t like to see it maligned.
There supposedly exists an NC-17 cut. I personally cannot speak of that since I haven’t seen it, but man I would like to get my hands on it.
