Top Five: 80’s Action Trailers

I’m not sure exactly which trailer this is, but I believe it to be the first theatrical trailer, or the trailer that came after the teaser trailer.  It’s easily the best of numerous trailers and spots for the movie, and I wonder if Jim Cameron had a hand in it.  In some ways it has aged better than the actual movie.  This trailer is cool and ahead of its time, dark and menacing.  It even does well without Schwarzenegger’s presence being in it too much, I suppose a result of him not being too big of a star yet.  Remember the good old days when they hired someone with a suitable voice to narrate the trailer?  What happened to trailers like that?  It’s been a while since I’ve seen one, possibly in 2010 for the first Expendables movie? Either way, while Cameron may have been neck and neck with John McTiernan in the 1980’s with movies, he certainly had the edge in trailers, as we’re about to find out…
