1) Aliens (1986) Theatrical Trailer
Surely if we had time machines the first thing we would do would be do sneak into a 1986 screening of Aliens. Just imagine you had the original movie on VHS, and weren’t aware that this one was coming – remember, there was no internet in the 1980’s and this was usually the first way you’d find out about a movie. Then you see this trailer before a different movie, taken completely by surprise. It also came among a new wave of faster paced trailers, more aggressive yet not disorientating, moving away from the 1970’s tradition of advertising a movie slowly to the viewer by explaining the entire plot. This was state of the badass art. I mean for fuck’s sake, Aliens is the first action movie to feature laptops. In 1986!
