3. Rambo IV (37%)
The film that arguably brought the whole genre back to life. I know that Rambo: First Blood Part 2 stands at only 28 percent, which is just plain stupid, but Part 2 came out way before anybody even had the internet so for some reason it doesn’t sting quite so much. Let’s face it, the original Rambo trilogy is way beyond the reach of these geeks. As it happens, for me, Rambo IV is the best one after First Blood. It’s the antithesis to these dog-shit CGI laden two and half to three hour long ‘epics’ which we are supposed to sit through nowadays: lean, emotionally engaging, exciting and it doesn’t shy away from showing us what real combat is like.
Women and children get dragged around by the hair and bayoneted to death because that’s what happens in real life in these shit holes. And if we enjoy watching John Rambo rip a bastard’s throat out, capture a 50 calibre machine gun and blast the perpetrators into bloody chunks at the end, so what? Those mother-fuckers had it coming and it’s beyond me to see how any real man could fail to get a kick out of watching that kind of retribution unfold on the screen. Just because there’s no justice in real life why shouldn’t we get some in our movies?
