Pacific Heights (1990)
I should really put this fantastic film first, before I forget it. After the phenomenal success of Batman, some wondered how Michael Keaton would ever follow up or if he had peaked. Well this was an excellent follow up.
This one is truly underrated. A 6.4 on the IMDb? 40% on Rotten Tomatoes? This film is a superb thriller, what’s wrong with people? It has Michael Keaton playing a villainous conman trying to swindle Matthew Modine out a house that he already can’t afford. Great plot, reflective of a bloated, overly taped housing sector with ridiculous loopholes.
But even though this movie is good to take as a serious thriller, it has an added bonus. Michael Keaton in this movie shows how he is a master troll, demonstrating even more skill than Nicolas Cage. Subtle, sly, heavyweight champion trolling, the type that won’t be picked up by many. He’s not taking this great show 100% seriously, but then, he never has with any movie.
