Five Of The Manliest PG-13 Movies Out There
3) Rocky IV (1985)
Alright so perhaps this was not technically ‘PG-13’. But let’s pin down the reason for that, it came right after the rating made its debut, so in spirit it is PG-13. In fact the case is stronger with this one since it’s technically PG. But boy, is it a manly classic. I mean, let’s just reconsider the premise. A boxer heads into Russia during the Cold War and beats the shit out of their prized fighter in front of a baying mob.
Say nothing of the training montages. Lifting rocks, giving your opponents picture that you have stuck to the mirror the thousand yard stare, steroids, Survivor soundtrack and Burt freakin’ Young. Come to think of it this is a movie that is so manly, I’m surprised certain elements haven’t tried to hijack it and sully its reputation by claiming it has homosexual undertones, like Commando. And by the way, director Mark L. Lester dismissed that as total bullshit on his Commando commentary.
