Rocky IV (1986)
This soundtrack must have been played in every gym in the world at least once at one time or another. It makes you want to workout until you drop… then invade a large, frozen section of a Communist country all by yourself.
The Rocky series has had a nice varied set of continuous soundtracks, apart from maybe the rapping shit from the fifth and sixth movies – I don’t think I can ever forgive a rapping version of Eye of the Tiger for Rocky Balboa’s trailer.
Rocky IV has one of the best soundtracks ever. Hell the whole movie is like an extended MTV video.
Batman (1989)
What’s this, a comic book movie being celebrated on ManlyMovie? You damned right…
Because Batman (1989) is an incredible movie, doubly so if you want to call it an action movie. But listen to this soundtrack, especially the climax of Descent into Mystery, as Batman rescues the woman in his beastly (and best) Batmobile. It’s just lightyears ahead of the dull, two-note repetitive crap from The Dark Knight series. A rich feast of variation, excitement and class.
By the way, I think the sequel to this movie is the greatest Batman movie ever. Most would disagree, but who cares.
