26) JUDGE DREDD (1995)
This is another Stallone movie that has been torn up, but is weathering the test of time fairly well.
Judge Dredd isn’t what it was intended to be. Large tracts of the film were outright deleted from the theatrical release to reduce the violence and more menacing tone. For example, a scene where Rico kills news reporter Hammond and his wife was originally longer and bloodier because it showed them getting hit by bullets in slow-motion. Another scene where the ABC Warrior was to kill someone, ED-209/Mr. Kinney style, was also removed.
While it’s a pity we can’t get to see that film, even the theatrical version is worth a ‘once every half decade’ or so re watch. This might have been Stallone’s last hurrah (the production phase at least, the film bombed) as a big time AAA player. That bomb hit his career hard.
