10) COP LAND (1997)
Surely, one of Sylvester Stallone’s best films. After vendettas from critics and the Academy Awards, Stallone used Cop Land as a vehicle to say, hey, remember, I’m not a bad actor.
Featuring an ensemble from a Martin Scorsese production, the film features a thundering performance from Robert De Niro (remember when he was still good?), juxtaposed with Stallone’s droopy, scarred cop, who is more intelligent than the Balboa some might be tempted to compare him to.
And then of course there’s Robert Patrick and Harvey Keitel. These two in a movie together would normally be all you need, but with this David Chase-tier writing and James Mangold’s studious directing, it is for sure a classic.
