25) THE SPECIALIST (1994)
This was another attempt by Stallone to ‘go straight’ and shed the Reagan-era pissant genocide. Stallone even tries a contemplative, if sullen, look on the movie’s artwork.
You can say that The Specialist was another critical whooping boy for Stallone, but you can’t say it was a box office bomb. The film, also starring Sharon Stone and James Woods (don’t forget Eric Roberts) took over $170 million world wide.
Even if it’s quite formulaic, it’s really not a bad film. One that you might find surprisingly decent if you haven’t watched it in a long time. Woods is a good troll and Stallone does his usual thing of elevating mediocrity just by being Stallone.
